Spel Bel is a doorbell notification service for playgrounds. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.
Who we are

What data we collect
- Phone number or messaging handle — collected when you subscribe via WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal. This is the identifier we use to send you notifications.
- Subscription data — which doorbell(s) you are subscribed to.
- Opt-out token — a random token linked to your subscription, included in every notification so you can unsubscribe without a login.
- Event log — timestamps of when a doorbell was pressed (not linked to individual subscribers).
What we do not collect
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or location data.
- We do not track behaviour beyond the subscription and notification flow.
- We do not use cookies or analytics.
- We do not use data for advertising.
Why we collect this data
Your phone number or handle is used solely to send you a notification when the doorbell you subscribed to is pressed. Without it, the service cannot function.
Legal basis
We process your data on the basis of consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You subscribe voluntarily by sending a message to the bot. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe (via the opt-out link or by messaging stop to the bot), your phone number and subscription are deleted from our database. Event logs (doorbell press timestamps) are kept for up to 90 days.
Third parties
Notifications are delivered through the messaging platform you chose. Your data is subject to their privacy policies:
- WhatsApp — Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Business Cloud API)
- Telegram — Telegram Messenger Inc.
- Signal — Signal Foundation
We do not share your data with any other third parties.
Data security
Data is stored in a hosted PostgreSQL database. Access to the database and admin panel is protected by secret tokens. The server enforces HTTPS and industry-standard security headers.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have your data corrected or deleted
- Withdraw consent at any time (this will delete your subscription)
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

Children
Spel Bel is intended for use by parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Children press a physical button — no data about them is collected.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
